Baby skin is up to 30% thinner than adult skin and far more reactive to fragrances, dyes and rough fibres. The right baby bath towel is hypoallergenic, made from 100% natural fibres (cotton or bamboo), pre-washed, and sized large enough to fully wrap a wriggling 6-month-old.
Hooded baby towels are particularly worth it — newborns lose heat fastest through the head, and a hood keeps them warm immediately after bath while you dry the rest. Look for: 400–500 GSM weight (plush but light), a generous size (75×75 cm or larger), and OEKO-TEX certification if available.
We go deeper on what to actually buy for a newborn — including the things baby-product marketers oversell — in our Newborn Baby Bath Essentials Checklist.
